About the Workshop

With the flattening of the world as a result of both social media and commerce, we are moving towards more interpersonal connectedness. This presents challenges and opportunities for the caring career professional, now charged with helping three very different cohorts: the young adult looking to launch, the mid-career hoping to leverage their talent for the next opportunity, and (for the first time in human history), the senior adult looking to land in a meaningful place. While all three cohorts present different challenges, the caring career practitioner can readily tap into “old theories” (e.g., RIASEC and mindfulness) and integrate them with an understanding of the emerging theory and research of Interpersonal Neurobiology.

Objectives

1. Understand how to integrate RIASEC (Holland’s theory) with Mindful practices that will serve multi-generational needs.
2. Review the potential impact of interpersonal neurobiology (INPB) on career theory.

3. Understand how to use the new CCC-FM method (Harris) to help clients adjust and adapt to the new expectations in the world of work and find more meaning and satisfaction while pursuing their dreams. Learn and practice two mindful exercises for both self-care and to help clients with focus and performance anxiety.

4. Understand how to convert the “résumé –only” visit to help clients develop a new enthusiasm to seeking work.
5. Understand the ethics and practice of using emerging social media in the support and exploration of work.

About the Presenter

David Harris, MTS, MS has worked in the non-profit sector for most of his career and brings nearly 30 years of management experience to his practice helping clients. He holds two Masters Degrees, the first in theological studies and the second in counseling. He also holds a certificate in Career Counseling. David is a past president of The Georgia Career Development Association and currently serves as the Executive Director of The Conley Center for Care, Counseling, and Psychotherapy.
